Fibre Experience will showcase the Wonder of Wool, with displays of many British wool products, available for everyone to benefit from each and every day Previous Fibre Quest events lead us on our journey from Farm to Yarn in conjunction with South West Stitch Fest and in 2024, Fernhill Fibre will deliver a decade of wool research into innovation and product awareness, to include acoustic drapes, insulation, packaging, carpets and underlay, cosmetics, bedding, furniture, mulch, historic re-enactments etc

This one day event will include many natural products alongside our wool harvesting displays, with a key focus on holistic agriculture growing local food, fibres and fuels. We want you to experience shearing, wool handling, join in with our discussions focussed on reviving local industries, see blacksmiths, flax and hedge laying demos as well as sheep dogs working, butchery and cooking skills as we continue to harvest replenishing resources that can benefit water, plant and mineral cycles. Our newly refurbished Horseshoe Barns will host traders, café, bar and the official afterparty. Talks, Workshops and Farm Walks will also be available around the farm and fields throughout the day

After harvesting approx. 800 freshly BLADE shorn fleeces in March 2024, we will be offering you the opportunity to browse our fleece collections. - these fleeces will not be available online, are the cream of our crop and available to purchase in bags ready to take away on the day This Fernhill Fleece Sale will be running all day, where after you have seen how we throw each fleece from the boards and onto our grading tables for hand picking and sorting, we label ready to takeaway - all this happens in the shearing shed, next to the sheep being shorn on this day

Fleece Felting WorkshopsCome learn the ancient craft of wet felting with Fernhill fleece where a small group will make a pouch or small bag An opportunity to learn about fibre processing, felting using a resist template, and finishing off with buttons and button holes.

WET Systems with Jay & Clara AbrahamsA water based ecosystem, located 850' high up on top of limestone hills in the @mendiphillsnl, proving a safe haven for nature to thrive, growing willows we coppice as kindling and it's also a @bristol.zoo_wildlife_support British Crayfish conservation site About a ha in size, Jay will talk you through the design and construction details here from 2pm - 4pm - with a presentation followed by a tour and Clara will also have water plants for sale

Natural Fibres at Sea from Simon and Ann Flax growing ceased in the UK as more resilient fibres replaced them - our own and others endeavours have been to explore new and traditional uses of natural materials and to re-introduce as a sustainable, responsible material where manmade materials are proven to be detrimental. There is a growing interest in all natural fibres in the UK from both artisan growers, spinners and weavers, academia and industry - come and meet www.flaxland.co.uk with their boat, willow weaving and flax processing demo and discussion

Official After Party The Skimmity Hitchers Doors Open from 6.30pm You can also pre-book a delicious farm-sourced supper when ordering your gig ticket. Just state your preferred meal (meat, vegan, gluten free) in the notes box upon purchase and you will pay £10 cash on the night at Fernhill Farm. Those of you wanting to make it an overnighter can bring a camper van or caravan for £10, to be paid in cash on the day.
