FIBRESHED

by Rebecca Burgess with Courtney White

Growing a Movement of Farmers, Fashion Activists, and Makers for a New Textile Economy

Fibreshed is a growing movement started by natural dyer Rebecca Burgess, to create regional fibre systems from the soil up, connecting designers, farmers, dyers, makers and more.

A Fibreshed system is a place-based textile system that makes links between agriculture and the clothes we wear. Similar to a local watershed or a foodshed, a Fibreshed is focused on a particular geographical area from which all the elements, including the fibre, are sourced to create our clothing.

In stark contrast to the globalised and industrialised fashion and textile industry, the Fibreshed movement offers a vision for a regional, regenerative, fashion and textile system. It works to rpotect natural resources, improve ecosystems, regenerate and rebuild local communities.
