Heartwood - 8.5 YSW Single - Darkest Brown 1st Clip Romney Lambs
YARN CONES 8.5 YSW
Delighted to offer our newest batch of Dark Brown yarns from our lambs born in April / May 2025, and returned to us again as a yarn by Spring 2026
Named as Heartwood after the ancient oak beams that we reused to help restore our Grade II Listed farm house and barns - Heartwood is the core that was left behind in the old beams when the derelict buildings had fallen inside themselves, exposing the outer wood that over time rotted away, leaving just the bones of the old oak trees that originally held up the barn rooves. Today you will see these heart wood beams cleverly reused as bed frames and within our farm house kitchens as a rich, dark brown oak shade, matching our lambs fibres
These old oak trees are rooted to this landscape and as ancient as wool itself and we hope you like our inspiration, making use of all that nature gives to us throughout the centuries here at Fernhill farm
This yarn is luxury darkness in a fibre, coming from 1st clip dark brown lambs - born and blade shorn here on the farm, hand graded and selected to be as soft and rich as we can make our native yarns.
Washed, carded, spun and returned to us via the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall, who we have been working with since we first started our mission to add value to British Wool - since 2008, we can boast that this is a South West England Fibreshed product
A completely native shade - 100% natural with no dye added, the richness and pure darkness comes from genetic selection and our meticulous hand grading skills at shearing, ensuring the colour and final quality of this yarn is maintained from sheep to shop
