Semo Jumper pattern in Silver Mist 4PLY Yarn - Wonder of Wool knitting pattern

from £20.00

The Semo jumper in the first photo is taken from The Wonder of Wool book by Justine Lee released on the 18th August 2025

This listing includes the appropriate amounts of yarns to suit the pattern sizes within the book, packed in a Fernhill Fibre bag, plus an original wooden button, and our Fernhill Fibre cotton labels so you can finish your newly knitted jumper with source of origin if you wish to do so

Our new batch of Silver Mist II yarn is pure Romney Shetland shearlings fleece, with more than a hint of extra shine from blending our own coloured Lustre Flock fleece into this yarn too - creating a light airy yarn, full of bounce and shimmer from the lustrous long wool Romney and Lustre breeds

Please note - Silver Mist II is a lighter and brighter shade than the original batch, due to our flock genetics incorporating extra lustre over the years -0 therefore, the colour of the finished jumper will be slightly different to the photos the Wonder of Wool book

The pattern requires two strands of 4ply yarns to be knitted together throughout, and thus all our options include the ability to knit using double strands, either from the cone or balls

Whilst we waited to restock with Silver Mist, we also offered three alternative shades of Romney X Shetland yarns - all similar grey shades from the heart of our Mendip Hills National Landscape - there are still a few of these options left two

3 skein photos shows you the three colour options - dark grey on the left, light grey in the middle and mixed tones on the right - From the same original fibre flock, sold as a unwashed 4ply yarn in 50g balls, with 650g or 750g options to suit knitting preferences and pattern sizes

Below is a link to this fabulous book and some words shared by Justine about Jen at Fernhill Farm creating Fernhill Fibre yarns:

My first meeting with Jen was during 2020 when I was studying for my Masters in Textiles at Chelsea School of art, specialising in sustainability for knitwear and researching into British wool. This was after 30 years working as a knitwear designer in the fashion industry.

It was Jen hunter from Fernhill farm who explained to me the concept of Regenerative farming methods and the benefits for the soil, the plants, wild and farm animals. She sparked my interest in the differences between British sheep breeds' fleece, inspiring me to knit each pure breed to study their wool types. She also enlightened me to the benefits to the fleece quality when the sheep were grass – fed.

Subsequently to my research I have co-written a book called the Wonders of Wool that showcases some of our rare sheep breeds and the diversity and quality of our British sheep’s wool.

It is thanks to Jen and her enthusiasm for a better, more environmentally aware production of wool that led me down this path of Native British Wool knitwear.
